Capitol Saxophone Quartet

Saxophonist Christopher Creviston has played in Carnegie Hall with the Detroit Symphony, Prince’s birthday party at Paisley Park, and appeared live on BET’s "BET on Jazz". In 2007, he was Featured Artist at the NASA Region VIII Conference. Now professor at the Crane School of Music (SUNY Potsdam), he previously held positions at Greenwich House (NYC), the University of Windsor, and the University of Michigan. Christopher's teachers include Rhonda Buckley, James Forger, Trent Kynaston and Donald Sinta. Creviston has won many competitions and has been featured with several large ensembles, including the National Symphony Orchestra. Freelancing in NYC for over a decade, he's had the pleasure of working with Billy Porter, Marty Thomas, Tanya Michelle, Peggy Cone, Set'em Up Joe, the Capitol Saxophone Quartet, Moe Holmes, Karlus Trapp, Aaron Battle, Shimmer Planet, Larry Cooley, Anthony Robustelli, Glass Farm Ensemble, Paul Mahos and Kim Sozzi, among others. James Forger, dean of the Michigan State University College of Music, is also professor of Saxophone. In 1994, he founded a new non-degree granting division of the College of Music, the Community Music School, which enrolls 1,200 individuals each year. Forger is member of the Commission on Accreditation of the National Association of Schools of Music and has served as an evaluator and consultant to Schools of Music and non-degree granting community music programs across the Country. Since his appointment as director of the school of music in 1990, the college has grown in enrollment over 70 percent, and has been recognized as a nationally ranked program, one of five such ranked graduate programs at Michigan State University. Forger is an active performing saxophonist and recording artist. He has recorded Distances Within me by John Anthony Lennon, winner of the American composers Alliance Recording award on the CRI label, Concerto for Saxophone and Band by Karel Husa for Crest Records, and Symphonic Rhapsody for Alto Saxophone and Orchestra by John Anthony Lennon with the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra for the MCC label. A leader in the commissioning and performance of new works for the saxophone, he has commissioned works by Milton Babbitt, John Anthony Lennon, David Liptak, Donald Martino, Charles Ruggiero, and Morton Subotnick. Forger has performed throughout South America, Europe, Asia and the former Soviet Union. He has been guest saxophonist in residence at the International Chamber Music Festival of the Mayan Highlands in San Cristobal de las Casas, Mexico. He has appeared as soloist with the Pittsburg Symphony Orchestra, the Warsaw Philharmonic, the Greater Lansing Symphony Orchestra, the Grand Rapids Symphony and the Sinfonica de Vientos in Tunja, Columbia. During the past several seasons, Forger has participated in the Grand Teton Music festival in Jackson Hole, Wyoming; the Da Camera Chamber Music Series in Houston, Texas; and the Fontana Chamber Music Society of Michigan.

Michael Holmes is a talented solo and chamber musician who has performed throughout the United States, Europe and Taiwan. Mr. Holmes has completed coursework for the Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in saxophone performance, and is now currently working as an artistic advisor for Vandoren in the United States (DANSR). Holmes holds a Bachelor's degree in music education from Bowling Green State University where he was a student of Distinguished Research/Artist Professor John Sampin. He earned his Master's degree in Saxophone performance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he was the graduate saxophone teaching assistant for Professor Debra Richtmeyer. He has had additional studies with Jean-Marie Londeix, Claude Delangle, Griffin Campbell, Daniel Klentzy and Eugene Rousseau. Michael recently had an interview about his life and career published in the January/February 2008 Saxophone Journal. Mr. Holmes is the director of the Bowling Green State University saxophone camp and co-headmaster for the 2008 Illinois Summer Youth Music saxophone camp held at the University of Illinois. Michael is a Vandoren Artist and plays Vandoren reeds, ligatures and mouthpieces exclusively.
